The Alert: July – September 2019

A NOTE FROM IAN

NATIONAL SALES MANAGER

Hello, and happy summer to you all! While I’ve been with Parasec for many years and travel regularly to visit our customers, the sheer number of clients we have means that meeting everyone would be a Sisyphean task that I’m not likely to ever complete. That being said, I’m excited to virtually introduce myself and explain how our team of regional account managers is available to help you.

My team’s primary role is that of product knowledge. We work hard to ensure that every client is made aware of the various ways Parasec might help make their job easier. With nearly half a dozen specialty areas and a variety of services under each, there’s never a week where we don’t hear someone say, “I didn’t know Parasec did that!”

Our secondary role is to answer any questions, address any concerns and simply ensure you’re getting the best service possible. As the only employee-owned company within our vertical, Parasec truly has a vested interest in delivering unparalleled customer service—and my team is here to provide you with an additional level of customer care.

Finally, we are your go-to for research and development of new services that we might be able to offer in the future. Occasionally called a “wish list,” we often ask if there’s anything we aren’t currently offering that might support your practice. It may be a “distant cousin” of a certain filing or something we’ve not yet interacted with, but whatever the case, we would love to hear what you’d like us to offer next!

I welcome your feedback and look forward to possibly meeting

Idaho: Expedite Fee Changes

Effective July 1, 2019, (pursuant to House Bill 191) the Idaho Secretary of State will increase the next-day expedite surcharge for entity filings from $20 to $40. This surcharge will provide evidence of filing within eight working hours after the entity filing is delivered to the state. House Bill 191 also introduces a same-day expedite option for $100, which provides evidence of filing for documents that are submitted to the Secretary of State before 1:00 p.m. Please note, these expedited options may not be available for all filing types.

Nevada: Filing Requirements for Commerce Tax

Senate Bill 497 (SB 497) has removed the requirement for certain business entities from filing an annual commerce tax return with the Department of Taxation—specifically, those with a gross revenue of $4,000,000 or less. The law is effective for the 2018-2019 taxable year as well as future tax years. If the Nevada gross revenue for a business from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019 was over $4,000,000, that business is still required to file a commerce tax return on or before August 14th, 2019. In the event that an entity’s gross revenue exceeds the $4,000,000 threshold in a future year, it is the business owner’s responsibility to file a return for the year. Failure to file may result in the assessment of penalty and interest. For more information about the Nevada commerce tax, please go here.

Ohio: Long Form Good Standings

As of June 1, 2019, the Ohio Secretary of State ceased providing long form good standing certificates. Alternatively, customers now have the option to order a short form status certificate and a separate business detail report, which is a certified copy of the business’ history and all records filed with the Ohio Secretary of State’s office. If you need assistance obtaining either of these documents, please feel free to reach out to our team at parasec@parasec.com.

Philippines: Hague Apostille Convention

Effective May 14, 2019, the Philippines Embassy and Consulate General ceased authenticating through legalization any documents (e.g. school, public or private) issued in the United States. The change was the result of the Philippines joining the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents, also commonly referred to as the Apostille Convention. As such, American documents are now authenticated through the issuance of an apostille. For more information on these changes, contact the Parasec apostille team at apostilles@parasec.com or call 888.672.7273.

U.S. Virgin Islands: Deadline to File Franchise Taxes

The deadline to file franchise taxes for business entities registered in the U.S. Virgin Islands has been extended to July 31, 2019. Late filings of franchise taxes will assess penalties and interest starting on August 1, 2019. To pay your franchise taxes electronically, go here.
